Our Governors
Herne Bay Infants and Nursery School governors are a committed team of volunteers, drawn from all walks of life, yet something we all share is having time, an open mind and a passion for education and the local community. The governing body is accountable for the school’s performance, its finances and the safety and well-being of pupils and staff. We support and challenge the school, ensuring it delivers the best education and environment possible.

Nicky Brown: Headteacher Governor
I have been a governor, in one guise or another, for over 20 years. Twice as a parent governor, once as a staff governor, once as a community governor and three times as a Headteacher … all but two of these was at an infant school. Governors have an important job ensuring that schools provide a high-quality education for its pupils within the budget that has been set and at Herne Bay Infant and Nursery School we have a talented and dedicated team of governors committed to getting our school to ‘outstanding’.
I joined Herne Bay Infant and Nursery School in 2021 from leading another school in Kent, however I spent a majority of my teaching career in Hampshire. I am proud to be the Headteacher of such a caring and forward-thinking school and I believe that our school has the potential to be the best in Herne Bay!
Anna Lancefield: Chair of Governors

About Myself: I moved to Herne Bay from London with my partner in 2022, having spent some time here on holiday in 2018. I work full-time, partly in London and partly from home. I enjoy living by the sea, going on long walks and exploring the local area. As an ‘incomer’, I felt keenly that I should make a contribution to the local community and so I was delighted when the opportunity to become a school governor arose.
What I bring to the role: I am a qualified accountant and internal auditor, so I have a well-developed understanding of how governance, and in particular financial governance, works. I have spent many years working with public sector and not-for-profit clients (including Ofsted!) and can bring this perspective to my role on the governing body.
Victoria Buss : Parent Governor
Area of responsibility: Quality of Education
About Myself: I am a mum of 3 and a qualified secondary school Drama teacher, and in recent years I’ve been working as a private English tutor with students in Key Stages 2-4. Since moving to Herne Bay I’ve also been doing some supply teaching in the local primary schools.
What I bring to the role: I am passionate about education, creativity and giving children a life-long love of learning and want to support our school in providing that for every child.
Anne Stone: Co-opted Governor
Area of responsibility: Finance, Health and Safety
About myself: Both my sons attended HBIS between 1999 – 2005 and I was actively involved as a volunteer in class and with the PTA. I have been a parent Governor at both the infant and junior schools.
What I bring to the role: From 2008 – 2011 I worked for KCC as a Financial Compliance Officer, visiting schools to audit the Schools Financial Value Standard, SFVS. I became a LA governor for another local school and was vice chair of the Finance Committee.
From 2011 – 2014 I was School Business Manager at a Canterbury Primary School where I was responsible for the finance, HR, H&S and wellbeing of the school.
In 2014 I moved to CCCU to work as an administrator on the TeachFirst programme in the Faculty of Education. I am now an RKE Officer in the Faculty of Medicine Health & Social Care.
I hope that my experience may be of benefit to the school to ensure the best opportunities for the children of Herne Bay.

Kieron Field: Parent Governor

About myself: I am a dad of 2. My daughters currently attend Herne Bay Infants School. I work as the Health, Safety and Environment Manager at the National Audit Office in London. My favourite pastimes of late involve cinema trips with my family, travelling and exploring different eateries with my incredible wife Gemma, who is a TA within the school.
What I Bring to the Role: My biggest motivator for becoming a parent governor, was having the opportunity to contribute to the educational landscape which my two girls are growing up in. My background in compliance also affords me the ability to strategically input on areas of safety and safeguarding within the school.

Katie Morgan: Co-opted Governor

About Myself:
I am a qualified teacher, living in Medway. I was previously the Deputy Headteacher at Herne Bay Infant School from 2021-2024. I now work in the charity sector organising training on Autism and Learning Disabilities for NHS and Care workers.
What I can bring to the role: I worked in education for over 14 years, leading English, Maths and the Early Years. My knowledge of the curriculum means I am able to support and challenge the school in delivering the best possible education for pupils. I have been a Designated Safeguarding Lead in school and also do this as part of my current role, meaning I have up to date knowledge of changes and best practice in keeping children and adults safe. My previous experience at Herne Bay Infant and Nursery gives me a good grounding in helping the school move from strength to strength.
